What’s a book or movie that genuinely scared you?

Actually, there are two movies. Growing up, I idolized my older cousins. Katie is about 7 years older than me and her brother, Ryan, is about 4 years older. At Christmas or Thanksgiving we would all convene at Grandma’s house. Grandma had a basement. While the adults cooked, played poker and visited upstairs, the kids took over the basement with a level of lawlessness and lack of supervision that the adults would surely deny today. We had a pool table, a ping-pong table, a pinball machine and….a TV with unlimited 80’s cable.
I am now 51 years old and detest horror movies. I don’t find being scared fun at all – there’s enough fear in ordinary adult life that I don’t need to proactively and voluntarily add to it. However, at the age of 7, I did not have that philosophy. On the memorable night in question my older cousins decided to turn on Poltergeist and followed it up with Children of the Corn.
To this day I do not let a foot hang off of the side of the bed. Ever.
